Nexus 6, Why I want it and why I don't

So just recently Google has officially announced its new Nexus device, the Nexus 6. Code named Shamu, a Killer Whale, the Nexus 6 is rocking a huge 5.9 inch AMOLED display with a 2K resolution, a Snapdragon 805 processor, an Adreno 420 GPU, 3 GB of RAM, 3220 mah of battery, 13 megapixel rear camera with OIS, and internal storage starting at 32 GB. Which is kinda sweet but unfortunately the price is rather high compared to the Nexus 5.

Why I Want It

Android 5.0 Lollipop
As an Android user, the latest version is always the greatest version and who doesn't wanna get their hands on the latest popular mobile OS? Not only that Lollipop brings performance improvement, it brings major UI change since Ice Cream Sandwich namely Material Design.

Guaranteed Update
Nexus device gets update directly from Google, so no more waiting a few weeks or months or even years before getting an update on Android. Other Android smartphones are even lucky to get updates, some are left alone by manufacturers on previous versions of Android as old as Gingerbread.

Nexus Device = Developer Device
Nexus device are the baseline of all Android, the mother of all. Which is why it is mainly targeted for developers and developers love them. By being supported by developers, it is guaranteed to get great mods and apps specifically for the device and support will be great. Even after Google abandons it years after, as long as a developer is still around, it will stay alive until the hardware wears out.

Great Entertainment Device
Playing games, watching movies, and listening to music on a phablet is really far better than on a small screened smartphone. And with that huge battery, it is guaranteed to last longer. Oh and did I mention that it has a dual front facing speaker?

Why I Don't Want It

No 64bit Processing For You
Even though Android 5.0 Lollipop will support 64bit processing the hardware of Nexus 6 does not support it. It may not affect daily usage by that much but by next year, many devices will ship with 64bit processor and make the Nexus 6 a step behind.

It's Just Spec Bump
We've reached the era where smartphone development are in a stalemate. Everything is just increasing numbers: higher CPU clock, bigger RAM, bigger battery, bigger screen, etc.. There hasn't been a new technology applied yet to phone in the market even on the Nexus 6. I want to upgrade my smartphone when technology like flexible screen, long lasting battery, depth cameras, or other new technologies make it to new smartphones. So far, I'm happy with my smartphone's hardware.

That Price and Availability
Nexus device is famous for being an affordable yet powerful Android device. But priced at 650 USD off contract for the 32 GB version, the Nexus 6 may have changed all that. That's just a little price difference with current flagship devices which offers more features, be it software or hardware. Not only that, it will probably be available on selected countries for a while before being available here in Indonesia, and I sense a significant price increase when it does make it here.

That Huge Screen
Some may argue that the bigger the screen, the better. But I'd like to have my smartphone to be pocketable enough for my jeans, which is rather tight, and easy to use one handedly. Yes it might be enjoyable for multimedia use but I have my 7 inch tablet for that and my laptop should it not suffice.

The Nexus 6 will be available for pre-order on the 29th of October in the United States. Will you be getting yours? What do you think of the Nexus 6?
